a perfect day.

Logan and I woke up bright and early this morning.

We enjoyed our usual morning nursing session, and scrambled to get bathed and ready in time to make our sweet Madison's softball game (the daughter of my dearest and oldest friend). We caught up with old friends on the ballfield, and enjoyed a beautiful, sunny Spring morning.

After the game we drove just down the road to Nana & GP's house, and welcomed good company and hot coffee. We even snuck in a little leftover teriyaki chicken for lunch.

We loaded up the car with a couple of sweet girls (Logan's cousins) and ran a few errands before making our way to Skateland for Madison's 7th birthday party.

A few hours and slices of cake later we found ourselves out to dinner with Nana & GP, and we dined on a little of everything at the table.

We worked off the bulge by browsing through Target, and taking a short stroll on a warm but pleasant evening.

Back at our temporary home we celebrated our day with a little bath time and snuggle time.

And here we sit, Logan sleeping soundly in his pack 'n play and me grinning ear to ear at what a perfect day it was. A simple but busy life, full of the best family and friends anyone could ask for. (and reminiscing at a softball game didn't hurt either :)

Logan crossed a few firsts off his list today... first ball game, first birthday party, first trip to the skating rink. He enjoyed (almost) every minute of it!

My sweet baby boy,

Time is passing so quickly, yet I can't remember a time that my life didn't revolve around you. You will be 12 weeks old in just a few short days, and it's amazing how much you've grown and changed in the last week. You have always followed me with your eyes and recognized my voice, but now the biggest smile crosses your face as soon as I enter a room or you hear me speak. It melts my heart unlike anything I've ever felt before. We share a bond that will last forever, and is different than any other relationship you will ever have in your life. That alone makes everything worth it.

You're playing so well by yourself, and are full of smiles all day. The colicky baby we brought home is a distant memory. You played on your mat for nearly an hour yesterday, and I would do anything to know what was going on in that little head of yours during the long conversation you had with your octopus. It was the sweetest thing. You're sitting up in your bumbo, grabbing at anything within reach, and constantly telling us what's on your mind. I know we have so many fun adventures ahead of us, but right now I just want to pause our lives and enjoy this stage a little longer. You amaze me every day with everything you're learning and taking in from the world around you.

You're also sleeping all night in your crib, and napping without any fuss at all. I'm so proud to watch your independence build, but I also love that my snuggles are the ones you want the most. You love to cuddle, and I hope that remains true for at least a few more years. Sometimes I find it hard not to pick you up when you're sleeping alone, because as hard as it was I miss all of our naps and sleep together. When I'm not holding you, I feel empty.

I look forward to the many milestones and memories that await us. You are the perfect miracle!

love always & forever,
Mama

I don't remember the last time I saw my Dad this happy. And I love it.

oh so soft cotton

When I initially chose to cloth diaper my baby, I had a long list of reasons... saving money, minimizing waste for the environment, potty training sooner, decreasing or eliminating diaper rash... and they were oh.so.cute. But now, just a few days into our cloth diapering adventure, one reason I never considered before has topped the list. Cotton is so soft. So, so soft.

I'm packing for a short weekend trip right now, and the logical choice would be to use some of our many left over disposables for the trip, right? We have at least 200-300 left. So much more convenient and no need to wash laundry while we're away. But I can't do it. I went to put a disposable on Logan last night (the cloth diapers were in the wash and I didn't want to leave dirty diapers in the house over the weekend), and for the first time I realized how uncomfortable it must be to have that nasty, rough, paper feeling on your bottom. They look about as comfortable as the one-size-fits-all adult briefs we use at the hospital... and you know if the hospital is paying for them, they're CHEAP. How could I choose to put something so awful on my baby with all of these cute, soft, cloth diapers laying around?

So I didn't. I'm packing the cloth diapers (just wishing we had a few more), the wet bag, and our laundry detergent and heading to NC. Hopefully the inlaws don't give me too many looks when I throw dirty diapers into their washing machine. But you know what? I think I would do it even if it meant going to the laundromat. I hope I don't come across as preaching or that I'm better than anyone that doesn't use cloth. I promise I don't judge people that use disposables... I completely understand (and I used disposables for 2 months too!). But this is the choice I've made, and I couldn't be happier. So far it's going great! (and isn't that the cutest bottom you've ever seen?!?)

let the cloth diapering begin!

Before I ever became pregnant, I knew I wanted to cloth diaper. As soon as I heard that cloth diapered babies are potty-trained sooner, I was sold. Saving money and the environment are just added bonuses.

We received so many disposable diapers at our many baby showers that I decided to delay cloth diapering while we adjusted to life with a baby, our new sleep schedules, etc. We still have a few hundred diapers left, but I couldn't wait any longer. For now we will only cloth diaper part-time while I decide which diapers and routines work best for us.

After seeing how cute Logan's bum looks in his first cloth diaper, he may never wear clothes again!

Logan's firsts: the Zoo

9:41:00 PM Unknown 1 Comments

A weekend of family and beautiful Spring weather made the perfect setting for Logan's first trip to the zoo. We are zoo people... Nick and myself have been to the Nashville Zoo several times, the Memphis Zoo, NC Zoo, and Chattanooga Aquarium (close enough). And this was all in our young adult years before children! I look forward to many more trips with Logan to the zoo, and I definitely see a family membership in the near future. Logan's first zoo trip was a bit crowded, but we still managed to take plenty of pictures to remember the day.
