a perfect day.

Logan and I woke up bright and early this morning.

We enjoyed our usual morning nursing session, and scrambled to get bathed and ready in time to make our sweet Madison's softball game (the daughter of my dearest and oldest friend). We caught up with old friends on the ballfield, and enjoyed a beautiful, sunny Spring morning.

After the game we drove just down the road to Nana & GP's house, and welcomed good company and hot coffee. We even snuck in a little leftover teriyaki chicken for lunch.

We loaded up the car with a couple of sweet girls (Logan's cousins) and ran a few errands before making our way to Skateland for Madison's 7th birthday party.

A few hours and slices of cake later we found ourselves out to dinner with Nana & GP, and we dined on a little of everything at the table.

We worked off the bulge by browsing through Target, and taking a short stroll on a warm but pleasant evening.

Back at our temporary home we celebrated our day with a little bath time and snuggle time.

And here we sit, Logan sleeping soundly in his pack 'n play and me grinning ear to ear at what a perfect day it was. A simple but busy life, full of the best family and friends anyone could ask for. (and reminiscing at a softball game didn't hurt either :)

Logan crossed a few firsts off his list today... first ball game, first birthday party, first trip to the skating rink. He enjoyed (almost) every minute of it!

carolina on my mind

I still live in the South, I still get my fair dose of heat and humidity, I live next to a lake... why does warm weather and sunshine make me miss NC so much???

I've said it before and I'll say it again- I LOVE my friends in TN.  They have been so good to me, and have become much more like family than friends.  But deep down I think my heart will always belong to NC.  Just say the words Wrightsville Beach, Eastern NC BBQ, dogwoods, Wilmington, etc, and my face just lights up.  Tennessee has been a great home for the past 4+ years and this city I live in is amazing and full of life and excitement... but NC will always be my real home.

I'm anxious, excited, and scared to find out the path that Nick chooses in the military... but I'm so ready to find out where we will be living for the next 20+ years (even if all I know is that we will be moving around every 2-3 years).  Of course if he calls to tell me to pack my bags for the Midwest or somewhere far far away, I may quickly wish I was still in the dark about our future.

I would love more than anything to move back to NC, but I also want my husband to be happy and proud of his career.  If nothing else, I suppose we can retire in NC ;)

so. freaking. tired.

Today I survived the first day of computer training for my new job. It was a long, painful process. It's amazing how exhausted you can be after 8 hours of boredom. I'm a quick thinker, a quick worker, and a quick learner... and this training class was not designed for people like me. The only thing that made the day worthwhile was knowing I was making pretty good money for doing something that only required the comprehension and skill of a first grader.

On a good note, I'll be on my way to Mississippi to see Nick in 11 short days! I can't believe his leave is almost here. The first few weeks went by fast, but I've started to miss him more and more in the last few days. I would do just about anything to kiss him right now. It's only been 22 days since I last saw him, which is a sad reminder of just how long this deployment is going to be. I know I can do it and will be fine, but I just don't want to. Oh well... I accepted it a long time ago, and I'm just ready for him to leave so that we will be closer to the day he comes home.

We had our annual girls' trip to Gatlinburg this past weekend, and it was awesome as always. We make great memories together. Sometimes I forget how many great friends I have in TN.

Tomorrow will be another boring day of computer training, but luckily we should be done by noon.  I'm not looking forward to it.  Next week will be much more exciting... a few days of nursing orientation, a trip to Chattanooga to see the fam, and finally taking the NCLEX!  I should be very close to having some beautiful letters behind my name.  I will write them proudly every chance I get :)
